A complete remake of the Xebec TV series. The storyline is different as they bypass the whole history of the academy and go right for the Evangeline punch. Other differences are shown such as Setsuna and Konoka are close friends and the fan service is turned down and Chamo-kun is brought in right away. The anime starts with the fight between Nagi (Negi's father) and Evangeline.
THE STORY
was a bit more compelling but at the same time it fell flat compared to the first telling of Negima for a few reasons. 1 it had a lot more magic and a bit of a darker undertone which was quite nice at the same time it got very silly like Asuna's one track mind about a Cupa Chabra and some side stories that really took the series off the main plot which took away from the flow of the story making it sometimes seem to drag on needlessly. Since I am a Negima fan I still give it a 6 for the storyline but wished very much the could have combined the fast pace magic comedy and some of the Fan-service of the first Negima with the SOMETIMES deeper and darker undertone of the second telling of the story but some of the fillers they did use in the telling did give some extra depth to the characters (Evangeline for example).
Animation
I would rate at a 4 I missed the vibrant colors of the first negima and cleaner art work. The animation seemed rushed and lacking depth when compared to the first negima
Sound
was a bit above average for the Opening and Closing songs and back ground music was nothing earth shattering but was a good balance during the show. Acting I bought the Subtitle Dvd being too impatient for the Dubs to come out but I found the Japanese acting to be average and decent to listen to **** I will comment later on the dub tracks when I re-watch in English.
Characters
There were quite a few more stories given to the characters in this telling like mentioned earlier in this review you found out a lot more back stories on characters like Evangeline, Konoko, Nodaka and a few more characters were added from the manga that were missing from the first Negima which made this worth watching despite some of the obvious drawbacks to this Remake of Negima Esecially if you liked the first Negima.
Enjoyment
A fun anime to watch cute girls magic and a bit of mayhame was quite entertaining especially since I usually watch dubs but, watched through this subbed if you liked the first Negima this will be a nice expansion from the first to find out a bit more about some of your favorite characters while getting to see A LOT more magic. JUST A NOTE don't expect this to be a furthering of the story line from the first Negima this is just an alternate retelling of the story with a lot more magic battles.
